Testing for Adult ADHD, Learning Disorders, and Autism

Does it feel like you’re working twice as hard as everyone else just to keep up?

You're smart, but things that seem effortless for others take you an exhausting amount of energy.

Perhaps you just can’t stay focused, even on things you know are important. You've tried every productivity app, organizational system, and supplement. Nothing has made a real, lasting difference.

Or maybe reading, writing, or math has always been a struggle. You think you might have been dealing with a learning disorder your entire life, but you've never had it confirmed.

You want to understand the reasons for your struggles. And you want an actual solution, not another temporary fix.

A psychological evaluation might be right for you if:

You're a college or graduate student struggling to focus, learn, or keep up. You're smart enough to be here, but keeping up with reading, writing papers, and studying is a struggle. You need to know if ADHD or a learning disorder is making school harder than it should be and if extra support could help you succeed.

You've struggled with focus, organization, and follow-through your whole life, and now it's affecting your work. Looking back, the signs were always there. You had trouble focusing in school, managing your time, and finishing projects. Maybe teachers said you needed to “try harder” or “apply yourself.” Now it's impacting your career. You want to know if ADHD is the reason for all of this so you can finally get the right help.

Reading, writing, or math has always been a challenge. You work around it, but learning has always been hard. You read slowly, misread words, avoid writing when possible, or feel anxious when numbers are involved. You want to know if dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, or another learning disorder is causing these struggles.

You've always felt like you're running a different operating system than everyone else. You're bright and capable, but social situations require enormous mental energy. You've learned the rules, but they don't come naturally. Sensory experiences others barely notice (certain lights, sounds, and textures) are overwhelming. You've spent years masking, scripting conversations, and trying to blend in. You're starting to wonder if you might be autistic and whether understanding that could finally help things make sense.

stop wondering what’s wrong. get real answers.

A psychological evaluation will reveal what’s getting in your way and how to make it better.

You can finally understand why focusing, learning, or daily tasks feel harder than they should. You’ll learn if you have a diagnosable condition (like ADHD, a learning disorder, or autism) and exactly which strategies, treatments, or accommodations will help.

I specialize in psychological testing & evaluation for:

  • ADHD can make life at home and work harder than it should be. You start projects but don't finish them. You procrastinate on important tasks. You forget appointments or lose track of deadlines. You feel like you're constantly playing catch-up. ADHD isn't about laziness or lack of motivation. It's a neurodevelopmental condition that makes it hard to plan, organize, complete tasks, and stay focused. I help adults understand if their attention challenges are due to ADHD or another underlying cause.

  • Autism looks different in every person, and it is often missed in women and bright individuals who have learned to mask in social situations. This is why a thorough evaluation matters. I conduct comprehensive autism assessments that go beyond checklists and brief screenings. I look at social communication, sensory sensitivities, behavior patterns, and how you experience and navigate the world. An evaluation can help things finally make sense.

  • If reading, writing, or math has always been a challenge, you might be wondering if you have a learning disorder. Learning disorders are brain-based differences that make it hard to learn to read or write or understand math. I provide comprehensive evaluations to determine if you have a learning disorder and identify exactly which processing weaknesses are interfering with your learning.

  • Anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, and other mental health conditions can significantly impact your daily life. Many mental health conditions have similar symptoms but require different treatments. I offer thorough evaluations that clarify your diagnosis and give you a complete picture of your mental health. An accurate diagnosis helps you get the most effective treatment for your specific needs.

  • Many smart and capable individuals who have ADHD and learning disorders struggle to pass standardized exams, even when they know the material. Accommodations like extended time, additional breaks, read-aloud, and a separate testing room can reduce the impact of attention and learning challenges on your test performance. My psychological evaluations provide the documentation you need to request accommodations on standardized exams and professional licensing tests, including the SAT, GRE, MCAT, LSAT, EPPP, Bar, and more.

How a psychological evaluation can help

Psychological testing isn't just about getting a diagnosis. It's about finally understanding yourself and getting a clear plan for what will actually help.

Self-Understanding

You'll get a clear picture of your strengths and challenges. You will understand yourself better and learn if your experiences are due to a diagnosable condition, such as ADHD, a learning disorder, autism, or a mental health condition.

Accurate Diagnosis

If you have ADHD, a learning disorder, autism, or a mental health condition, you'll receive a formal diagnosis backed by objective testing. An accurate diagnosis opens doors to the right treatment, accommodations, and support services.

Targeted Treatment

Instead of trying every strategy and hoping something works, you'll know exactly which treatments and techniques are most likely to help you. This saves time, money, and frustration. You'll finally get an actual solution, not another temporary fix.

Accommodations

An evaluation can help you qualify for accommodations in college, graduate school, at work, and on certification exams and standardized exams (like the GRE, MCAT, LSAT, Bar, EPPP, CPA exam).

validation and relief

Many adults describe feeling profound relief after testing. Finally, there's an explanation for what you’ve struggled with your whole life.

Not sure which evaluation is right for you - or if testing is even needed?

Start by scheduling an intake session. During this 90-minute conversation, we’ll discuss your concerns in detail. I'll share my thoughts on what might be going on and whether testing would help. If we decide to move forward, I'll recommend the evaluation that best fits your needs.

the evaluation process

1. Intake Session

We'll start with a 90-minute intake session. During this conversation, we’ll talk through your concerns and I'll ask questions to understand your strengths, challenges, history, and what you want to learn from the evaluation. From there, we’ll develop a testing plan designed for your specific needs.

2. Testing Sessions

You'll come to my office for one or two testing sessions. Each session lasts three to four hours. You'll work directly with me the entire time. I’ll make each session as comfortable and stress-free as possible so your results reflect your true abilities.

I use a variety of proven tests to understand how your brain works. Most of the tests are interactive, and many people actually enjoy their testing sessions. The test activities vary depending on why you're being tested. You might complete puzzles, learn and remember new information, and solve problems. You might do activities on a computer or complete tasks involving reading, writing, and math. You’ll also complete some questionnaires.

3. Review Your Results

About two weeks after your testing sessions, we'll meet for a 90-minute feedback session. This is where everything comes together. I'll walk you through your results and explain your strengths, the reasons for your challenges, and any diagnoses. I’ll answer all of your questions and make sure that you understand everything. Then, I'll explain exactly what will help. You'll get specific recommendations tailored to you and leave knowing what to do next.

4. Written Report

On the same day as the feedback session, you'll receive a comprehensive written report. This report includes your test scores, clear explanations of your results, diagnoses (if appropriate), and detailed recommendations. You can share this report with your therapist, doctor, employer, university, or testing organization to help you get the support and accommodations you need.

At the end of your evaluation, you'll finally have answers. You'll have clarity about what's been making life harder than it should be and a clear plan for how to make things better.

Questions?

FAQs

  • Not at all! Many adults have spent years struggling without knowing why. When they finally have answers, the most common feeling is relief. Testing can help in several important ways.

    • Understanding yourself and your needs. Testing gives you a clear picture of how your brain works, including your strengths and the reasons for your challenges. When you struggle without knowing why, it's easy to blame yourself. You might assume you're not smart enough or not trying hard enough. Learning that you have ADHD, dyslexia, autism, or another difference helps explain why certain things have always felt harder. With that understanding, you can stop blaming yourself, build strategies that actually work, and feel more confident in your abilities.

    • Getting support that makes a real difference. A diagnosis points you toward the right kind of help. Adults with learning disorders can still benefit from targeted, evidence-based tutoring. Adults with ADHD often benefit from therapy, coaching, medication, or a combination of all three.

    • Qualifying for accommodations. If you plan to return to school or take a professional licensing exam, testing provides the documentation you need to request accommodations. Common accommodations include extended time, scheduled breaks, and a quiet testing environment. A diagnosis can also help you qualify for workplace accommodations, such as note-taking support or a modified schedule.

It's never too late to understand yourself better. If you've spent years wondering why certain things feel harder than they should, a psychological evaluation can give you real answers.

  • Yes. Psychological testing is the most thorough and accurate way to diagnose ADHD, learning disorders (like dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia), autism, and mental health conditions. I provide thorough evaluations that go beyond checklists or brief screenings. These evaluations give you an accurate diagnosis and a detailed understanding of your strengths and needs.

  • You don't have to figure this out on your own. Start with an intake session.

This 90-minute conversation gives us time to talk through your questions and concerns in depth. I'll share my thoughts on what might be going on and whether I think testing would help. For some adults, the intake session alone is enough. Sometimes we can rule out ADHD or a learning disorder and identify other factors that are getting in the way, such as untreated sleep problems or an unaddressed medical condition.

If testing does seem like the right next step, I'll recommend the evaluation that fits your situation best.

The intake session fee is $400. If you move forward with testing, that $400 applies toward the cost of your evaluation.

It's completely normal not to know whether testing is needed or where to start. The intake session is designed to help you make an informed decision. There's no pressure to proceed if testing doesn't feel like the right step for you.

  • Yes, it can. In many cases, a psychological evaluation is required for you to qualify for accommodations. My reports include the documentation you need to request accommodations in many academic and professional settings.

College and university accommodations: If you're a college or graduate student, your school's disability services office likely requires formal documentation for you to qualify for accommodations. My comprehensive reports include clear diagnostic information, specific recommendations for accommodations, and documentation that meets university requirements.

    Common academic accommodations include:

    • Extended time on exams

    • A quiet, distraction-reduced testing environment

    • Scheduled breaks during long tests

    • Note-taking support

    • Reduced course loads

    • Priority registration

Standardized and licensing exams: Many testing organizations require a recent psychological evaluation in order to grant exam accommodations. My reports include all of the information those organizations require, including documentation of your diagnosis, functional impact, and the specific exam accommodations you need.

Common exams that require documentation for accommodations include:

    • Undergraduate admissions: SAT, ACT

    • Graduate admissions: GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT

    • Professional licensing: Bar exam, EPPP, CPA exam, medical boards, nursing boards

    • Professional certifications: Industry-specific exams

Many clients have successfully used my evaluations to get accommodations like extended time, additional breaks, or separate testing rooms. During your intake appointment, let me know which exam you're preparing for so I can ensure the evaluation meets those specific requirements.

Workplace accommodations: Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, employers must provide reasonable accommodations for employees with documented disabilities. A psychological evaluation can provide that documentation.

    Common workplace accommodations include:

    • Flexible scheduling

    • A private or quieter workspace

    • Written instructions instead of verbal ones

    • Extended deadlines for certain tasks

    • Use of assistive technology

Your employer does not need to see your full report. In most cases, I can write a one-page summary that includes only the essential information.

  • I'm an out-of-network provider, which means I don't bill insurance companies directly. However, many families are able to get some reimbursement through their out-of-network benefits. I provide detailed receipts (called superbills) that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

You can also use your Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSA), or Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) to pay for testing.

To find out if your insurance covers out-of-network psychological testing, call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits for psychological testing (CPT codes 96136/96137: Test Administration & Scoring and 96130/96131: Psychological Evaluation Services).

  • The fee for each type of evaluation is listed below. Each fee covers everything involved in the evaluation, including an intake session, 1 or 2 testing sessions, a comprehensive written report, and a feedback session.

    • ADHD-Focused Evaluation: $2,800

    • Psychoeducational Evaluation - Assessment for ADHD and learning disorders: $3,800

    • Social-Emotional Evaluation - Assessment for autism and mental health conditions: $3,800

    • Comprehensive Psychological Evaluation - Assessment for ADHD, learning disorders, autism, and mental health conditions: $4,500 to $5,000 (depending on complexity)

You can use your Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSA), or Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) to pay for testing.

Many clients are able to get reimbursement through their insurance plan’s out-of-network benefits. See "Do you take insurance?" for more information.

  • The report belongs to you, and you decide who sees it. I cannot share the report without your written permission. During our feedback session, we will review everything together privately before you decide what to do next. You can share the report with everyone, no one, or select people. It's entirely up to you.

Common ways adults use the report:

    • Share it with universities or testing organizations to request accommodations for standardized exams like the GRE, SAT, MCAT, or LSAT.

    • Provide it to therapists to inform treatment.

    • Provide it to psychiatrists to help with medication management.

    • Keep it private and use the insights yourself.

I'm here to support whatever you decide.

  • The first step is to contact me for a brief phone consultation. During this 15-minute call, we'll discuss your concerns and I'll answer any questions you have. This helps us both determine if I'm the right fit for your needs.

If we decide to move forward, we can schedule your intake session during the phone call.
