investment

While psychological testing is an investment of time and money, the costs of addressing the wrong problems or pursuing the wrong treatments are even higher.

By obtaining a correct diagnosis and the right treatment plan, you will know what you or your child really needs, allowing you to focus your efforts and achieve results faster. For young children, receiving a proper diagnosis early means they are more likely to reach their potential and less likely to struggle with frustration and self-doubt.

Insurance

I'm an out-of-network provider, which means I don't bill insurance companies directly.

Many families are able to get some reimbursement through their out-of-network benefits. I provide detailed receipts (called superbills) that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

You can also use your Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSA), or Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) to pay for therapy or psychological testing.

To find out if your insurance covers out-of-network mental health services, call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits for therapy (CPT code 90834) or psychological testing & evaluation (CPT codes 96136/96137 and 96130/96131).

Good Faith Estimate: You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Read more.

Benefits of Going Out-of-Network

Better care. More privacy. Less waiting.

Purple asterisk symbol with rounded edges.

01 More privacy

When you use insurance for mental health care, your insurance company has the right to access your records. By choosing out-of-network services, you keep your information private. If you choose to submit superbills to receive out-of-network reimbursement, your insurance company typically only needs to know your diagnosis code. If you choose not to seek out-of-network reimbursement, your mental health care stays completely between you and me.

02 more flexibility

Out-of-network providers often have shorter wait times and more flexibility in scheduling. You can typically get started sooner and find appointment times that actually work for your life.

03 therapy on your terms

When you use in-network therapy, your insurance company decides how many sessions you can have and how long treatment lasts. When you work with an out-of-network therapist, your care is guided by your needs and goals, not your insurance plan.

04 more comprehensive psychological evaluations

Insurance companies set limits on psychological testing, including limiting the amount of time that a psychologist can spend with each client. These limits might not match your needs. Out-of-network psychologists can:

  • Spend more time understanding your unique needs and tailoring the assessment to you.

  • Use a wider range of tests to provide a more thorough understanding of your strengths and challenges.

  • Provide recommendations and strategies that are more tailored to your needs.
